About Us

Get to know us better

We are Phi Sigma Sigma at FIU!

We are the Phi Sigma Sigma chapter at Florida International University!

We hope this page offers you a glimpse into our sisterhood, philanthropic ideals and core values that we strive to live by every day. Our core values are lifelong learning, leadership through service and inclusiveness and together with our hundred-years of traditions, set the foundation of our chapter at Florida International University. As the first sorority on campus, the Delta Kappa chapter has thirty years of ideals and traditions laid fourth by our proud alumnae and local founders.

Our vision is to create a dynamic sisterhood fostering uncompromising principles, igniting positive change, and embracing individuality. Through our involvement on campus, Phi Sigma Sigma has positively impacted the FIU Greek community through our athletic, educational and Campus Life collaborations. We inspire our sisters to live by our motto, “Aim High,” during and after their collegiate years.

We encourage you to partake in formal recruitment this upcoming fall, where you will have the chance to meet the sisters of Phi Sigma Sigma personally. During the recruitment week, you will learn about our local and national philanthropies, our community service work, our educational and networking opportunities and witness, first hand, our igniting sisterhood and love for our chapter.

Should you have any questions about recruitment or any information on this website, please feel free to reach out to any of our officers. We look forward to hearing from you!

President’s Message

HANA HABIB

My name is Hana Habib and I am a senior Psychology major at FIU and Archon of Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority.

I went through formal recruitment three years ago not knowing entirely how much of a better person, student, leader and woman this organization would mold me into becoming. Being a great woman didn’t make me a Phi Sig, being a Phi Sig made me a great woman! Joining Phi Sigma Sigma has prepared me for the real world and allowed me so many networking and educational opportunities. Gaining 100 sisters and finding my home away from home has completed my experience at FIU and I look forward to keep living by our core values even after my collegiate years. I hope to meet many of you during formal recruitment this Fall 2014 and I encourage you all to reach out to me with any questions you may have about Phi Sigma Sigma or this website.

Once a Phi Sigma Sigma, Always a Phi Sigma Sigma!

Socials

Grab-A-Dates, Formal, Traveling, and more!

If anyone knows how to have fun, it is the ladies of Phi Sigma Sigma!

Every semester we pack our calendars with fun-filled activities such as, socials, date functions, and many other events during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.

During the fall, one of our most anticipated events is Homecoming. During Homecoming week, we partner up with other members of our Greek community and together we participate in a variety of events like “Panthers got talent“ where we get the chance to choreograph and present our own dance and even decorate a float to show our panther pride to our wonderful university. Aside from that, we hold numerous themed mixers, which give us the opportunity to make new friends within the Greek community. Some of our favorite themes this year have been “High School Rox”, “Heroes VS. Villains” and “Thrift-Shop”.

We also host several date functions throughout the year. Some of our most popular events are “Grab-a-Mister” which is a semi-formal event and Spring Fling in which we load up a bus and take a road trip to an Orlando theme park. Phi Sig likes to end every semester with a bang! Which is why we host our annual Sapphire Ball at the end of the Fall semester. This is a night full of dancing, awards, and nothing but fun as we part ways for winter break and say goodbye to another year. Whether it is a night out on the town or a quiet night in, there is never a dull moment in the life of a Phi Sigma Sigma.

Philanthropy

We make it a point to give back

The ladies of Phi Sigma Sigma believe a woman who serves is a woman who leads.

The ladies of Phi Sigma Sigma devote themselves at all times to uphold their ideals through philanthropy. Our chapter raises thousands of dollars each year to our local and national philanthropy. Our local philanthropy is Janelle’s Wishing Well Foundation. Janelle’s Wishing Well charitable foundation was established in 2005 to honor the memory of Janelle Bertot, a sister of the Delta Kappa chapter at Florida International University, who was a victim of accidental carbon monoxide intoxication. The Foundation’s wish is to raise awareness on the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. Janelle’s Wishing Well Foundation also provides educational opportunities by providing scholarships to deserving students interested in health care, who share in Janelle’s desire to foster community volunteerism and advocate public awareness while creating community outreach on the dangers of carbon monoxide. Every year, the ladies of Phi Sigma Sigma host their annual Janelle’s Walk in the summer and Phi Sigma Sigma’s fashion show and Kickball Tournament in the fall, in her honor. For more information, please feel free to visit http://www.janelleswishingwell.org

The ladies of Phi Sigma Sigma also devote themselves to our national philanthropy, the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to generate funds for the educational and philanthropic activities for School and College Readiness also called “Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow.” Our work changes, empowers, and support students by helping children be fully prepared to learn and lead, becoming the leaders and scholars of tomorrow.

You cannot see sisterhood, neither can you hear it nor taste it. But you can feel it a hundred times a day.

We are born leaders!

“Leadership is not a position or a title, it is action and example”

The ladies of Phi Sigma Sigma believe in maintaining the highest standards of womanhood. The sisters of Phi Sigma Sigma always strive to be women of substance, character, and influence. PhiSig AIMS HIGH! Therefore, sisters are highly involved on campus and expand their leadership potential by accepting organizational responsibilities. Phi Sigma Sigma encourages sisters to engage in leadership positions to expand their personal and professional growth.

The sisters of Phi Sigma Sigma empower one another and find strength in the lifelong friendships they share in the bonds of their sisterhood. They are strong, confident, hard-working, positive, and inspiring young women who aim to be the best version of themselves. Phi Sigma Sigma is devoted in going above and beyond. They pride themselves in the numerous leadership positions they uphold, prestigious Honor Societies, and their scholastic achievements.

We are fun and adventurous!

Our motto is to aim high and with that, every sister radiates the ambition, strength, and independence that builds to the walls of our pyramid.
